Where our numbers come from

Every fee on this site comes from an official source. Here is the list, how we use it, and what we know is not perfect.

The MTN and Airtel price lists have no public web page that we can link to. We keep dated copies.

How we calculate

  • Mobile money prices come in bands. Each band starts just above the previous one and includes its top amount.
  • The total cost of a transfer is the provider fee plus the government levy.
  • By law, the levy applies to transfers from one person to another. We add it where the provider's price list shows it.
  • MTN shows one price list for transfers to banks and to other networks. We use that list for both.
  • We show amounts up to K10,000, the top band in the price lists.
  • For banks, we show the monthly fee for a basic current account, and the penalty or higher fee if you do not keep the minimum balance, from the Bank of Zambia table.
  • Loan numbers are worked examples, not any bank's price. We use equal monthly payments with interest on what you still owe, at 30.8%, the middle of the salary-backed loan rates in the Bank of Zambia table. Fees and the share of pay a lender allows are examples too, and we say so.

What we leave out, and why

  • Zamtel Money. Its latest public price list is from 2025 and uses the old levy. We add Zamtel when we have its 2026 prices.
  • Standard Chartered Bank Zambia. Its retail business is moving to FNB Zambia. The Bank of Zambia approved the sale in June 2026.
  • Premium accounts. We compare the basic current account in kwacha, because most people start there.
  • Transfers above K10,000. The price lists stop at this amount.

What we know is not perfect

  • FNB. New FNB prices from 7 September 2026. We have not confirmed the new prices yet, so we show the March 2026 values.
  • VAT. Some banks show fees with VAT and some without. The Bank of Zambia table does not say which, so small differences are possible.
  • Stanbic ATM fee. The Bank of Zambia table shows K11. The Stanbic price guide from 5 March 2026 may show a different value. We use the Bank of Zambia value until we confirm it.
  • Shop and bill payments. The price lists do not make clear who pays for these. We do not show them until the providers confirm.
  • Prices change. Always check the fee in your app before you confirm a payment.

Found a wrong number?

We check the bank fees each time the Bank of Zambia publishes a new table, and the mobile money fees when a provider changes its prices.

If a number does not match what you paid, tell us. Send a screenshot if you can. We fix errors and say what we changed.
